It is with heavy hearts we announce Richard “Rick” Byron Meyers passed away peacefully on May 15th, 2025, at the age of 68. Rick will always be remembered for his warm heart, wild spirit, and most of all for his unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
Rick was born into a large family on March 2nd, 1957, to the late Jack Neil and Colleen Meyers. His most cherished memories involved the time spent with his sisters; Sharon, Candi and Oileen and his brothers; Neil and Roy. Rick’s childhood experiences would be carried forward in the family he would go onto build.
Rick moved from Kentucky to New Albany where he attended New Albany High School before departing to serve his country with honor in the United States Navy. He returned to the New Albany area to build his own family and create lasting memories with his four children. To his own family he displayed the benefits of a strong work ethic and the importance of having a close-knit family. He adored his two daughters and was a vision of strength to his two sons. As Rick’s family grew over the years, so did his unconditional love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rick possessed an adventurous personality and a strong belief that life should be lived to the fullest every day. He always took advantage of spending most of his time outdoors. Some of his largest passions included participating in fishing trips, going white water rafting or leveraging every opportunity to enjoy a cold beer with family and friends. All of these experiences provided him with a life filled with love, laughter and countless stories that he would passionately share. Rick was a friend to all and amazingly never met a stranger. His warm heart, quick wit and infectious laugh always made him the life of every party.
Rick is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Deetra May. Left to cherish Rick’s lasting legacy is his wife of 45 years, Tara Meyers; daughter Dannell (Matt) Piper; sons Tye (Veronica) Meyers and TJ (Nikki) Fown; grandchildren; Katie, Michelle, Tabby, Ashley, Hunter, Emily, Andrew, Peyton, Elizabeth, Brice, and Bailey; great-grandchildren Addelyn, Grayson, Elladee, and Ivy.
Rick’s warm presence and vibrant spirit will always be profoundly missed, but the memories built will forever be treasured in the hearts of his family and friends.
