Karl D. “Butch” Landon, age 76, of Marion, passed away on October 5, 2026, at his residence. He was born on December 25, 1949, in Marion to Karl B. and Dolores H. (Thompson) Landon. Karl married Donna J. Landon and they were married for almost 30 years before her passing in 2011.
Surviving are his daughters, Kimberly Stallsmith of LaRue, Kelly Stallsmith of Marion, and Jennifer Everett of Kansas; sons, Karl D. Landon Jr. of Kansas and Darren D. Landon of Marion; four grandchildren, Colton (Amanda) Daily, Brock Landon, Hunter Stallsmith, and Brooklyn Stallsmith; and great-grandchildren, Blake and Carter Daily and Jeremiah Kennedy Jr. He is also survived by his sister, Melanie (Randy) Breneman of Prospect along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Butch graduated from Elgin High School and served in the United States Air Force. He worked as a laborer at Whirlpool until his health required him to retire.
Music was an important part of Butch’s life, and he played in a band for many years. Through his music, he inspired others and left a lasting impression, reflected in the stories shared by those who knew him.
Butch enjoyed collecting classic cars and ham radios. He never met a stranger, and his first question was often, “Do you like classic cars?” His home was filled with pictures of his beloved cars and trophies from the car shows he had won. He loved his trips with Danny, no matter where they ended up. Traveling to Cancun became another favorite pastime, and he would have gladly returned one more time if his health had allowed. Butch would have been the first to tell you he was a “grumpy old man” and he meant it. His personality, love of music, and conversations about classic cars will be remembered by those who knew him.
A graveside service will be held Saturday Oct. 17, 2026 at Marion Cemetery at 11am with full military honors conducted by the Marion County United Veterans Council.
