Johnny “John” R. Scott, age 84, went to be with the Lord, September 8, 2025. John was born to the late Frederick Howard Scott and Maxie Audrey Scott July 18, 1941, in Norton Virginia. John married Therese (Kruppa) Scott, who preceded him in death in 2008. John was preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Maxie Scott and his spouse, Therese Scott.

Johnny is survived by children, Mary (Ken) VanBuskirk of Galion, Deborah (Sean) Dunn of Montana, and John C. Scott of Marion; brother, Gary (Inez) Scott of Bellingham, Washington; grandchildren, Jessica Zwolle of Marion, Michael (Samantha) Zwolle all of Richwood, Kendra (Thaddeaus) Carter, Ryan Dunn of Florida; great-grandchildren, Brennen VanBuskirk, Quincy and Kendall Carter, Jillian Pegg, Jayda and Harper Zwolle.

John retired from the US Marine Corp as a Master Gunnery Sergeant, and was awarded a Purple Heart for his injuries from Vietnam. He went on to retire from the Marion Correctional facility, where he had various roles as he was promoted through the ranks there as well. John was a graduate from Rayan H.S. of Youngstown. He also achieved a Bachelors in Criminal Justice from the National University of San Diego. He loved to read and some of his favorite authors were Tom Clancey and James Patterson. John was a member of the VFW 3313, Amvets, American Legion, Knights of Columbus; he was 4th degree faithful navigator. John was also a member of Saint Marys Church in Marion. He loved traveling, camping trips, and spending time with his family.
