John “Craig” Greenawalt Sr. was born April 4th, 1949, and was called home November 25, 2025, @ 5:50 AM at Marion General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 76 years old.
“Craig” was born unto Donald Edward Sr. & Ellen Elizabeth (Toombs) Greenawalt. He was one of five children. Grandparents were Charles Clarence Greenawalt & Edna May (Willmeth) Greenawalt Ford, and Grandparents Francis Edward & Verna Bertha (Baker) Toombs.
Craig has lived in the Marion area most of his life. Early on he served in the United States Navy as a Non-Petty Officer / Fueler from 1967 to 1969. Craig has worked many places during his life, but his home away from home was working at Magnetic Screw Corp. as a foreman for the past 40 years.
Craig has always loved & cherished his family. He liked attending family reunions & flea markets, enjoyed teaching others, and was always helping and thinking of all. He liked to tinker around with many different projects and was a Jack of all trades. He loved to watch his Beloved Buckeyes play. Liked to fish, dance with the best, play horseshoes & cards. He was one that liked to play the lottery & would be seen at the casino occasionally.
Besides his parents and grand-parents he is preceded in death by a brother Francis Edward (Verla) Greenawalt, a niece Jone’ Wallace, three nephews John T Greenawalt, Jay Lee Greenawalt II, Jacob Issac Greenawalt. And many more family and friends.
John “Craig” Greenawalt Sr. is survived by his two sons John (Darlene) C Greenawalt Jr. and Chadwick Allen Greenawalt Sr., his two brothers Donald (Pam) Eugene Greenawalt, Jay Lee (Elaine) Greenawalt, and a sister Donna (John) Jones, and two half-sisters Donna & Judy. Craig is also survived by four grandchildren Sophia (Toby) Fulk, Damion Joseph (DJ) (Maddie) Greenawalt, Chadwick Allen (Faith) Greenawalt Jr, Samantha Autumn Elizabeth Greenawalt. Five great grandchildren Hemera Dixon, Aether Dixon, Gunner Greenawalt, Chadwick Allen Greenawalt 3rd , and Asher Allen Greenawalt. Other significate people Craig cherished in his life include Mary Burwell, Gene (Brandi) Moore, Marsha (Charlie) Miller, Marla (Freddrick) Mullins. And many others that were like family.
John “Craig” Greenawalt Sr. has lived a life full of adventure, courage, trust, and love. His journey in this life is complete. Your ship has returned home. Rest in peace.
There will be a celebration of life for Craig at 11:00 am December 20th, 2025, at The American Legion Post 162, 531 Bellefontaine Avenue, Marion Ohio. Craig will receive full military honors.
Cremation will be by Affordable Cremation Services of Ohio. A Private Burial with Family will take place at a later date at Green Camp Cemetery, Green Camp, Ohio. Craig’s sons & family would like to thank the Hospice team, Marion General, Ohio Health, and all the nurses & doctors on second floor east for helping him & us during the most difficult time.
