Donald Lee Schofield, age 90, died on June 6, 2026. Donald was born in Marion, Ohio on November 11, 1935, the third son of Pearl and Virgil Schofield. He was proceeded in death by two brothers, Lyle and Richard, half brother Bill, and his sister Cheryl. Two brothers, Jim and Ken survive.
At the age of 5, his family moved to Niagara Falls, New York. He attended various schools there up to the seventh grade. Along with his friends he enjoyed playing hooky and exploring the natural wonders of the Falls area. At the end of his seventh grade year, his family moved back to Ohio. At the age of 14, he played football at Marengo High School. He attended Edison School, which was torn down when it was discovered he had attended there. After serving an undistinguished hitch in the army, he worked several trades, mostly associated with cars. In 1963, he married Virginia Edwards (nee' Osborne). This marriage produced two daughters, Dawn Marie and Deanna Lynn, and grandson Christopher Michael. All three survive.
At his retirement, he had worked in hotel maintenance at six different hotels. He often said that his sense of humor and pharmaceutical companies kept him alive. Since he had always wanted to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel, his ashes will be placed in a ceramic barrel. At Don's insistence, there will be no service or celebration of life.
His daughter, Dawn, is asking that donations be sent to the Humane Society in Marion, Ohio in his name.
