He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren: Josh Eblin (Raj Angrish), Mallory (Aaron) Tinkey, Marc (Jessica) Meddings, Rachel Eblin, Joel Eblin, Ceslie (Eric) Nielsen, Lane Eblin, Noah (Natalie) Eblin, Christian Eblin, Tess Eblin (Alex Melnychuck), Elyse Eblin, and Connor Eblin. His legacy continues through his seven great-grandchildren: Caylee Meddings, Preston Tinkey, Jacob Tinkey, Paisley Meddings, Addison Meddings, Owen Meddings, and Jane Eblin. Danny is also survived by his brothers, Stanley Eblin of Prospect, Ohio and Calvin (Nola) Eblin of Prospect, Ohio, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Danny was preceded in death by his wife, Marcia; his parents, Paul and Edith; his brother, Terry; and his sister-in-law, Joyce.
Danny was born on November 13, 1946, in Marion County, the oldest of four sons born to the late Paul and Edith (Shuster) Eblin. He graduated from Elgin High School and went on to build a life centered on hard work, family, and the things he loved most. Danny married Marcia Eblin in 1969, and together they built a family and shared many years of life. Marcia preceded him in death in 2013.
Danny was known for his strong work ethic and dedication throughout his career. He spent 17 years working as a production line operator at the Tecumseh plant in Marion until the plant closed in January 1984. He then served as Facilities Director at Marion General Hospital for more than 15 years before finishing his career as Building and Grounds Manager at the Marion Public Library. He retired in 2012.
From a young age, Danny had a passion for cars. He spent countless hours helping his father work on vehicles in the family’s repair garage, a hobby that grew into a lifelong love of engines, fast cars, and racing. Danny loved racing his Pontiac Firebird, both around town and on the track. He proudly displayed several racing trophies at home, reminders of the races he had won and the passion he had for the sport. He often recalled spending an entire week working on a car, only to take it into Marion on the weekend to “Shoot the Loop” and race. More often than not, the evening ended with the car being towed home, ready for another week of repairs before the next weekend’s adventures.
As his family grew and raising five children took priority, Danny eventually had to part with his beloved 1967 Pontiac Firebird, but his love of cars and racing remained a special part of his life. Danny also enjoyed watching sports. He was a devoted Ohio State Buckeyes fan, loved NASCAR, and proudly supported the Kansas City Chiefs, especially enjoying watching Patrick Mahomes play. Cheering on his favorite teams was one of the simple pleasures he enjoyed throughout his life. Danny also had a sense of humor and a way of looking at how times had changed. He would joke that when he was young, you couldn’t hear the car radio over the loud engine, but nowadays, you can’t hear the engine over the radio. It was a familiar observation from a man who appreciated the sound of a good-running engine. When he wasn’t working on cars or watching his favorite sports, Danny took great pride in his yard. He enjoyed mowing the grass, pruning and shaping his hedges, and keeping everything looking just right from the street. Whether under the hood of a car or tending to his lawn, Danny found satisfaction in working with his hands and taking pride in a job well done.
Above all, Danny will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His stories, humor, strong work ethic, and love for his family will live on in the many memories he leaves behind.
Danny’s life was defined by the things he loved: his family, hard work, a well-maintained yard, a good car with a powerful engine, and cheering on his favorite sports teams. He leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and memories that will continue to bring comfort to those who knew and loved him.
Though he will be deeply missed, Danny’s spirit will live on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those whose lives he touched. His family will forever cherish the memories of a life well lived.
