Daniel L Russell

Daniel Lee Russell, age 72, passed away peacefully at Marion General Hospital on May 23, 2025. He was born on November 14, 1952, in Marion, Ohio, to the late Francis and Delores (White) Russell.

A proud 1971 graduate of Marion Harding High School, Dan spent much of his life committed to serving his community. He worked for many years with Laborers’ Union Local 574 of Marion, ultimately serving as President. Later, he continued his public service as a Marion County Commissioner for eight years, where he was known for his dedication, integrity, and tireless efforts to make Marion a better place to live. Dan also gave his time as a trustee for the Marion County Historical Society Board and was an active member of the Can Do! Board, further demonstrating his passion for preserving local history and promoting community development.

On July 27, 1990, Dan married the love of his life, Linda S. (Ray) Russell. Together, they shared 34 wonderful years filled with laughter, adventure, and family. They loved traveling, fishing, antiquing, working in their garden, and hosting family get-togethers where Dan’s famous "London Broil" always made an appearance. Dan was a loyal fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns, and he rarely missed a game. He also enjoyed sharing stories about Marion’s past, watching westerns, and spending time with his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; children, Beth (James) Kee and Brian (Jim) Russell; step-children, Danielle (Shaun) Wright, Lincoln (Sheila) Counts, and Jenny Geyer; and his brother, Kevin (Deb) Russell. He was the proud grandfather of Merrick, Cole, Brendan, Ellie, Evan, Emily, Khloe, Keily, Haleigh, and Alex, and loved deeply by his fur babies, Sissy and Dakota. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Delores Russell.

He will be remembered for his warm heart, sharp wit, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. His legacy of service and love will live on in all who knew him.

A celebration of Dan’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Marion Humane Society or the Marion County Historical Society.
