Charlotte Mash

Charlotte "Carol" Mash, age 71, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, surrounded by her deeply loving family. After a courageous battle with liver and kidney failure, her fight has come to an end. She is now free from pain and dancing in the sky. Carol—otherwise affectionately known as Mom, Mama Bear, Grandma, Nana, and Ggma—was the beloved daughter of the late Charles Richard Levings, Ramona Catherine Benedict-Levings, & Mother Mary Levings She loved her mommy and daddy deeply, a testament to the caring family she came from and the unconditional love she carried forward into every relationship in her own life. 

Carol was a truly unique soul who was so many things to so many people. She was a dedicated wife, a fun Aunt, a loyal friend, a protective mother, a proud grandma, and a cherished great-grandma. She was an amazing, goofy, talented, hardworking, and effortlessly caring kind of woman. Carol was the loving wife of John Dale Mash. Together, they built a beautiful life full of laughter, stories, family traditions, big gatherings, hard work, comfort, and deep love. Each of them was able to annoy the other, laugh with the other, and always make it clear how deeply they belonged together. John carries forward a lifetime of irreplaceable memories with the woman who truly made their home a place people never forgot. Carol loved people exactly for who they were; she never made anyone feel like they had to be anything other than themselves. She quietly kept up with everyone’s lives in the background, lovingly "stealing" and saving photos from Facebook onto her phone so she could look at them during her alone time. The kind of comfort found in Carol’s kitchen could never be copied. Her cooking was never just about the food—it was an expression of love, care, and a warm welcome that made everyone feel right at home. She never let anyone go to bed hungry, even if it was only a spoonful of peanut butter. Whenever you would come into her home, she would be the first to ask, "Are you hungry?" And when you were on your way out, she would always send something home with you. Some of Carol's favorite things included thunderstorms and sitting in the rain. She loved everything about nature, from watching the night sky for shooting stars or UFOs to watching outdoor movies on the big screen. She loved the sunshine, time spent by the pool, and taking scenic drives with her brother, Rick. Most of all she cherished and loved time spent with her family. Towards the end of her life, one of her absolute favorite things to do was watching all of the birds outside. She especially loved the hummingbirds and orioles, and she always made sure she was fully stocked up on her jelly just for them!

Those who knew her best know that she would not want to be remembered only for the day she left us. She would want to be remembered in the sound of a thunderstorm, in the sight of hummingbirds and orioles outside the window, in the smell of a favorite meal cooking in the kitchen, in a scenic drive down a country road, and in the laughter of family gathered together. She would want us to remember that love was never meant to be small.

Carol was preceded in death by two sons: Bruce Ryan Mash, 10-23-1977 ~ 11-5-1977, and Todd Daniel Mash 12-2-1972 ~ 7-28-2009. She is survived by her loving husband John Dale Mash, children: Shawn Dale Mash, Jeremy Eugene Burns, Carrie Sue Burns, Crystal Rose Mash, 
Sandra Lee Mash, grandchildren: Kacee Kendra Mash , Jordan Alexander Burns, Brooke Shawna Mash, Alexis Denise Burns, Briana Renee Burns, Jayden David-Alan Sheets, Rhiannon Tuhey (Annie), great-grandchildren: Jace Alan Ramey, Kaleah Sue Ziegler, Riley Denise Ramey, Hazel Renee Ziegler, Valerie Alexandra Ziegler, Mylo Nolan Ziegler, Marshall Ezekiel-Ryder Reynolds, Millaini Jocelyn Gregg, Noa Dean-Alan Patterson, Bellamy Shaw-Lee Patterson, Aria Maria-Hope Patterson, Xavier Edward-Kline Patterson, siblings: Jerry Levings, Rick Levings, Rebecca Levings, Vicki Rile, and step siblings: Gary McMichael, Frank McMichael, Clara Robson, Janet Watkins, and Gloria McMichael.
